Welcome, Tourists, Passers-through, Nearby Businesses, and Neighbors!
Thank you for your interest in using the Village Green.
Our Church considers all people our neighbor.
For those who don’t know, our church owns most of the property that is the Village Green, and the Town owns a very small portion on the sidewalk facing Tinker Street, as well as sliver on Rock City Road.
With the Town, we are stewards of a community space, and we consider it the heart of our community. One of the things we’re doing as a church to facilitate two-way communication with the community is to install an interpretive display on wooden posts, which shares a historic narrative of our Church alongside the Town as owners and stewards of this property. With the installation of this display, we hope to facilitate ways of being mutually good neighbors.
In 2005, The Reverend Kathleen Edwards Chase, our pastor in the late 90's and early aughts, along with the Church Consistory and the Town of Woodstock, created a Town Agreement with the purpose of setting respectful perimeters on the space: specific times for amplified music, for example, as well as prohibited activities like individual vending. But more importantly this agreement put in writing the mission and use of the Village Green: "It is to be an open space for all.”
In order to fully honor our Agreement, the designed use of the Village Green, and Christ’s command to love our neighbor, we as the Church seek to advocate for the voiceless, stand up to oppression in all forms, and to not remain bystanders in moments of great evil and mistreatment of our neighbor.
For Group Use:
When it comes to using the Village Green, we welcome all groups who share our mission: to help others, to be kind and merciful, and to do good in love and truth. We look forward to partnering with community heroes, nonprofits that overlap with our faith and organizational mission, and those demonstrating in bipartisan peaceful civic expression.
All are encouraged to read the Town Agreement in full, or the summary version we created on our church website. To apply, please use the request form below.
As we are a small group of committed volunteers, you will hear from someone with the contact information you provide in less than a week.
Thank you and God Bless!
Sincerely,
The Consistory (Pastor, Elders, Deacons, and the Village Green Committee), 6/30/2025
